India-born Lisa Sthalekar became the first woman president of Federation of International Cricketers’ Association
- India-born and former Australian women's cricket team captain Lisa Sthalekar has been appointed as the President of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA). Lisa is the first woman in the world to hold this position.
- Lisa's name was confirmed at the FICA Executive Committee meeting held in Nyon, Switzerland. She will hold the post after former South African batsman Barry Richards, former West Indies all-rounder Jimmy Adams and former England cricketer Vikram Solanki.
- The 42-year-old Stalekar represented Australia's women's cricket team in 187 international matches. She played an important role in Australia winning the T20 World Cup in 2010.
- She had defended 106 runs against New Zealand in the World Cup final. Sthalekar has also been awarded the prestigious Belinda Clark Award given to Australia's best female international player in 2007 and 2008.
- Lisa made her ODI debut against England in 2001 as a hard hitting batter. She played 125 ODIs for Australia in which she scored 2728 runs. Her highest score in ODIs was 104 not out. In ODI cricket, she has 2 centuries and 16 half-centuries to her name.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai Inaugurates Biggest IKEA Store in India
- Chief Minister of Karnataka on 22 June, 2022 Basavraj Bommai said Swedish furniture and furnishings maker IKEA has decided to invest around Rs 3,000 crore in the state. The Chief Minister inaugurated IKEA's largest store in India at Nagasandra here. This is its fourth store in the country.
- The Chief Minister had initial talks in this regard with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IKEA during his recent visit to Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) meeting.
- The company had said that with a planned investment of Rs 3,000 crore in Karnataka, IKEA expects to attract around 5 million visitors to Bengaluru this year. This will give maximum employment opportunities to the local people at the IKEA store here. Along with this, the company has assured 75 percent jobs for the local people.
- According to the company, IKEA has hired around 1,000 employees in its Bengaluru store with 72 percent locals. It also has plans to hire other people locally.
