Ruchira Kamboj to be the next Permanent Representative of India to the UN
- On 21 June, 2022, Senior Diplomat Ruchira Kamboj has been appointed as the next Ambassador/ Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations. Ruchira Kamboj, a 1987 batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, is currently serving as India's Ambassador to Bhutan.
- Ruchira Kamboj, to be appointed as India's Permanent Representative to the UN, will succeed TS Tirumurti as Indian Ambassador to the United Nations. The Ministry of External Affairs, in its brief statement, said that she is expected to take charge soon.
- Let us educate that Ruchira is handling the work of the Ambassador of India to Bhutan. She has previously served as India's High Commissioner to South Africa and India's Ambassador/Permanent Representative to UNESCO. Ruchira also has the achievement of being the first woman ambassador of India to Bhutan.
- Significantly, Ruchira Kamboj started her career as the third secretary in France. Where she learned the French language and took the responsibility of the second secretary in the Indian Embassy in France.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launches 'Nipun' Project
- On 20 June, 2022, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has launched an innovative project named 'NIPUN' for skill training of construction workers. The full form of NIPUN is ‘National Initiative for Promotion of Upskilling of Nirman workers.
- The 'Nipun' project is an initiative of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under its flagship scheme of Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAI- NULM) to train over 1 lakh construction workers through new skilling and up-skilling programs and this gives them work opportunities abroad as well.
- National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), the nodal agency under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Government of India, will be the implementation partner for this NIPUN project.
- Deendayal Antyodaya YojanaNational Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAI- NULM)
- DAY-NULM is a centrally sponsored scheme, which is being implemented since 2014-15 and aims to reduce the poverty and insecurity of the urban poor households in the country, so that they can become self-employed and move from skilled labor to employment opportunities, which has resulted in a marked improvement in their livelihood on a sustainable basis.
